Now That I'm In Nigeria, So What?

Relocating to one's own country after being outside for a long time poses a challenge to many people, especially the womenfolk. Hey! I'm not being sexist. Hear me out :).

Well, you had been out doing your thing for quite some time. What were you doing? You were probably going to school and/or working. Then, you decided you needed out. Perhaps you stay had expired and you didn't want to fall into a crack and disappear into irrelevance. Home had to be the honourable option.

Many people decided to return for their own sake. There was a job calling (cough, cough, em, yes lucky one), a suitor waiting, a business to be set up. It was just the best thing to do. You were prepared to leave your comfort zone and travel back to that other zone called HOME.

You packed up, maybe you sent some things in the mail ahead of you, you said goodbye to a few friends and bought you a nice first class or economy class flight ticket. Perhaps, you were like me who didn't plan my exit and it backfired. Let me say that I wasn't deported.  I ran home. Hahaha...let me tell you a small joke.

Some years ago, I watched a game of baseball on television where a little boy who succeeded in hitting a ball was asked to run 'home.' Instead of running home to his base in the game, he ran home to his mama. Yes, that was a joke but yeah kind of what I did. I ran home to Mama Africa. Girl, has it been an experience?

Returning home was eventually voluntary as I decided I had to live here. This was in 2011 and I haven't been to the United States of America ever since. I did try for a visa last year and was turned down. I still have property abroad and I'm still owing a student loan :(. I wished that my transition had been smoother. That I wouldn't miss the USA so much but be able to visit when I could.

So, are you planning to return home or make a change in life? Hear me on soundcloud.com/seguewithmonica. Pardon me if I don't update this blog or post to soundcloud as expected, my internet is very ineffective, being one of the joys of living in the Global South. And yes, there's my health issue, which is somewhat erratic but hopeful. Welcome back!
