Spotlight Tuesday - Lorde: Straight Out Of New Zealand

This Tuesday the spotlight beams on Lorde, the New Zealander Grammy Awards winner. She was born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor on 7 November, 1996. She's 17 years old. She was born in Takapuna and was raised in Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. She sang in many music and drama classes until she signed with Universal when she was 13 years old.

Lorde, who adopted the stage name, which is a 'feminized' Lord, due to her fascination with royalty and aristocracy, released her musical debut an EP entitled The Love Club, in 2012. Her first single Royals debuted at number one in New Zealand and later in the United States of America's Billboard Hot 100. She released her debut album Pure Heroine,  in 2013.

Lorde received four nominations for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards and she won Song of the Year and Best Solo Performance for her single Royals. She is surely a talent to watch as she is young, vibrant and ambitious. Although controversy surrounding her age and stage name have got many people talking, the young artist has taken all in stride. She had to show proof of her age and has explained how her stage name inspires her.

This is wishing Lorde the best in her musical career. She was the first solo artist from New Zealand to have a number one song in the United States. Congratulations to Lorde. More pictures of her below.
