How I Made My Crochete Bag (Pictures)

Hi everyone, this is another quick post. Yeah, it seems quick and easy is the theme song nowadays. WELL, let's say that I have delayed putting up this entry for a while now. But here it is. I had the fortunate opportunity to give twisting and braiding another chance in my life after so long with locks. Of course, this was before I got my present Freestyle Afrilocks. This is what I'm talking about here....

The yarn hairstyle
When I posted the picture above to Twitter, some random guy asked if those were caterpillars on my head. Lol. Random yeah, that's what you get from them white people who have no understanding of our African ways. But that wasn't a pinch of a hurt, anyway. I got a lot of those questions in the US such as, Did you have television in Africa. Oh, well! Need to say, I didn't reply the Twitter guy. When I did this hairdo, I had natural hair and the hairstyling wasn't very eventful. Just your usual day with a local stylist. I wanted two unconventional colours - royal blue and brown - for the hair. This was what I got here for the blue.

Wool?Yarn for knitting, crocheting and hair styling
After I was tired of carrying the hairstyle after a few weeks, I decided to remove the yarn. That was how my reusing or recycling spirit kicked in. I must say that I got the bug bite in the USA, which is on a serious mission of reusing or recycling ONLY useful and reusable things. I thought of the yarn and got to work.

How many of y'all did Home Economics in High School? I did and I learnt quite some stuff that I have taken for granted now. Secondly, I learnt some handcrafting from my mother even though I wasn't an ardent learner of her knitting and purring. Anyway, when I got down to making the bags, first what I term a make-up bag and a handbag. This is how I started crocheting the latter with a brown yarn/wool.
The early stage of crocheting...I did something like a running stitch and ran with that

What I had was a crochet pin and a wool/yarn. I got it around the first loop and made more loops as many as I wanted the bag wide. It's pretty much what you know but you are welcome to use Google to look up more ways of starting a bag as this. So, I began to make progress....

The bag is beginning to take shape. I added the second colour, the royal blue. I had to decide what I needed to make and counted my rounds that way. Mind you, I joined the yarn in so many places because it had been used for hair; it wasn't a straight forward business. In addition, it was imperative that the joints don't show on the outside. Hide 'em well, you hear.

Work in progress
At last I got myself the bag I have in the picture below. I affixed a lining to ensure the safety of my belongings, and a zipper so all would be safe from pick pocket. Even if you don't have need for a zipper, it's better to add it than leave your stuff open to falling out.
The crochet bag in all its two-colour glory
Oh! Did I say anything about the hand? You have to make the choice to add the length of the bag as you deem comfortable. Yep! Now, you know - from possible caterpillars to a crochet handbag. That's what I got on here thanks to the recycle bug. Let me add that I bought more yarn to ensure that the bags (there was a smaller make-up bag) came out just fine. OK, dearies. Let me hop outta here.

*Ndewonu!
