Season Alert: Pineapple...And Why Season Alert?

I have found out this blog entry is just a whistle blowing mechanism for many a farm produce lover. You want to know what's in season in Aba and its environs then you are at the right place. I wouldn't know what's in season in your town or region. Do tell. I live in the South East and that's my official jurisdiction. So, you tell me what's in abundance in your own area if you care to share.

OK. I must confess I happen to be among the first to blow the whistle on what's going to be around in the next few months in my area. For instance, a couple of weeks ago I featured plantain, which is still coming out but there is reason to consider it in season. Just yesterday, a bunch of plantains was harvested close to my work place. This bunch was so big even on the tree that I lusted after it for many weeks. It happened that the owner was willing to trade the plant and some people bought it. Such plantain wouldn't be so big if not that it's in season. Yes, seasons don't just happen they are for a period of time sometimes lasting months. Plantains are still with us and may stick around till the end of the year even into the new year.

Why season alert? I have said this before - it's alright to know what's in season because this helps with pricing. When a farm produce is in season it's expected to be in the best shape and affordable. Plantain remains a high end farm produce. However, many people enjoy it in season because one can drive a good bargain for it. No need repeating the obvious. It's also helpful to learn that this blog entry is relevant because some produce are not in season for instance water melon. Look around, this plant is usually around for most part of the year as it's harvested and transported from the North. Now, It's scarce in Aba only littered on few stands where the sellers cut it up in pieces for sale. Another example is cucumber. It's still found around but the ones I see and sometimes buy are not fresh. Fruits are usually fresh when in season. Not good enough reasons? What about avocado pear? Where did you see one last? Probably from Shoprite or Spars but go to the market and you won't find it there. Only on few stands can one find avocado pear.

Another reason to read this entry every weekend is because I enjoy talking or here typing about it. You say writing? OK, I enjoy writing about it. It's so much fun doing so. What's next? Pineapple. These aren't in full season yet. They are still being trimmed and pruned to yield the best fruits. But I've seen quite a number of them on fruit stands in the past few weeks. They are here. We are waiting for them to fully arrive. I think the early ones are harvested from Benin (Edo) or wherever, I don't really know but the local ones, the Ngwa ones are still in the farmland.

I don't have real pictures. Does it make any difference? I misplaced my Blackberry phone since April and I don't have a replacement...yet. That reminds me, just for the record any picture taken with my post post April 10, 2015 wasn't done by me. Nothing serious, just setting the record straight. And I'm not in a hurry to replace it. I discovered while I owned a BB device that it's quite enslaving. I spent more time on social media than I needed to as good as the device was. I now enjoy my relative ignorance and limited activity on the Internet. I'm pleased that this blog gets read.

Yeah, somebody is trailing me and reading me probably in admiration or working for the CIA or FBI or SSS. Good laugh! Whatever, you are on the wrong block if you think I'm mischievous. I've got nothing to trade. Keep your distance or enjoy my weekly serving of Season Alert. Yeah, done with Season's Alert. I don't like the grammar and I don't care that it's correct. Blessed weekend.
