As somebody who has a long history of scribbling on paper or hitting the computer I've been writing for a long time. Since my teen years. But should be a writer, even a blogger? I haven't been a success at writing. We know a few writers who started quite young and have made a name for themselves. Need I mention names?
Even though I have identified with a writing body such as ANA (Association of Nigerian Authors) I still have difficulty submitting my manuscripts for editing and possible publication. I suffer what I term 'writing inertia.' What could be wrong with me?
I'm comfortable with many genres of literature. I believe that I can cook up a play, scribble a poem or even dream up a prose, but where is the work? Recently, I had thought, maybe I should write in Igbo. Hmm...Igbo ke? Yes! Igbo kwa. After all, I have a sound degree in Igbo from a reputable degree, a bachelor's not the associate. Maybe that's the problem. The language to employ in my writing is the dilemma. I blame it on my withdrawal from the society, my lack of desire to continue with a shamelessly and distastefully corrupt Nigerian society. What's the worth of an education these days? A mere connection with a senator, other politician or some silly nay crazy military officer. This country has a future I dare I can read on my palm: it's destination is destruction.
Who are the audience. You, the busy young urban professional who's the detail for the gossip blog (babe needs data na) or your dad, if educated is worried about his pension that hasn't arrived or earned in a few months. And the menace called 'networking' or ekpere in the Igbo parlance that is the ORACLE of the day. People eat, shop, marry, even get accommodation after consulting 'onye ekpere.' Hian! We are in trouble o. Before I get called the new evil, let me stay on the topic, should I be a blogger?
Blogging isn't a job for me yet. I haven't earned a kobo as a result of keeping my thoughts here. No penny, shishi, ego bekee has come to me because I ain't savvy at all when it comes to joining the bandwagon. And I'm no groupie. Where is the world headed? I dunno. You tell me. Nigerians think corruption rests with dem Buhari. No, it's right here with all of us. We are the corruption.
Blogging isn't a chore, it can be a calling or a profession, or a really cool hobby. I like the last option for me...phone batter is about to quit, so let me continue sometime soon....
Happy evening.
