I've got little to say on this issue and I think that more important people have said their bit better. However, the little I must say is that this is the most arrogant administration that this country has had. A democratically elected government is subject to the people and not vice versa. The fact of representative leadership doesn't give rights to a ruler or leader of a sovereign state to treat a section of the population with disdain. President Mohammadu Buhari has shown no respect for this country and hasn't been able to retract undemocratic trends in the country.
Why an Emirate in Igboland? Simply put, an emirate is the rank, reign and lands of an emir. As a political territory, it oversees the land where Muslims have property. For a country that has continued to steal from Igbo people viz the abandoned property loss after the civil war, Nigeria cannot claim that Igboland without an Emir hasn't secured the lives and property of Muslims especially Hausa people. In Abia State during the riots in Kano and eventually in Plateau States in 2000 and 2001 that saw the deaths of many Igbo people in those states, former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu rallied forces to protect Hausas and saved them from death. Who did that for Ndigbo anywhere? Everywhere around this country Igbo people are slaughtered like animals and have been asked to leave the North and even the South-West. Why install an emirate in a land where people have run home to save themselves?
This country has refused to grant protection to Igbo lives and property countrywide. She has refused to see Ndigbo as people who have contributed to nation building. Yet they aren't to be left alone to go it alone and see if they will survive without the resources that Nigeria has refused to afford them. Recently, I checked out Teach for Nigeria to discover that only three regions of the country were listed to benefit from it: the North (Kaduna State) and the Southwest (Lagos and Ogun States). Why so? Were these the states that supported the present administration most? Why not one in the three regions say one in either Ebonyi or Enugu State for the Southeast? Maybe the Southeast isn't part of the New Nigeria. What are we then? An Emirate? Igbo people if in their right senses should reject this tacit even if tacit stratagem to limit the progress of Ndigbo. Governor Hope Uzondinma should be called to order.
