On Monday (23/11/2020), it was reported that another chaos would have erupted at Mosque Street, Aba between Igbos and Hausa if good sense wasn't employed by Ndigbo. I learnt that a Keke Napep driver and a Northerner selling suya in a wheelbarrow allegedly fought over right of way and as usual an argument ensued. This was the route coming from Obohia Road towards the Main Park, Aba. The Northerner believed to be Hausa was angry and insulted the Igbo keke driver, raining curses on him and his people. The men got hot and exchanged angry words with each other. One of the passengers in the keke vehicle warned the suya seller that this place wasn't Kaduna State where they, the North, treated Igbo people with disrespect and contempt. The Hausa man pulled the Igbo passenger out of the vehicle and with the help of his comrades beat him up mercilessly.
This happened in Igboland, in Enyimba City, in front of Igbo people. I don't subscribe to bullying of strangers. Neither do I subscribe to undue intimidation from the North in the East, West, North or the South. In Nigeria, and since the first coup of 1966, Igbos have been victims of unnecessary harassment often leading to death in the Southwest, North, and even in the South-south. If this arrogance would carry to the South-east then somebody is really leaving a funny handwriting on the wall probably in Sanskrit. This action from a Northerner is uncalled for and the National Assembly or whoever is in charge should get the North out of Igboland if they are going to be so cruel everywhere they are. The Northerner claimed that the Igbo passenger was rude in reminding a fellow Nigerian that Abia State wasn't Kaduna State where they could do anything and get away with it. As far as he was concerned this was ONE NIGERIA. This is One Nigeria indeed. What really is One Nigeria? Is it One Nigeria that led to the death of many Igbos and indeed Southerners in Southern Kaduna? What does One Nigeria mean to the North? That the whole land space called Nigeria belongs to the North? Everywhere a Northerner in Nigeria was located should be called Nigeria? Of course! But it should be called the North or Northern Nigeria? Of course not! Same for every Nigeria including Ndigbo (Igbo people) or you are asking for the inevitable.
Is there One Nigeria in Niger State? Are Igbos free to mingle and live happily in Katsina State without dire consequences to them? Is there One Nigeria in Kaduna State? Is there one Nigeria in Enugu State? Is Oyo State in One Nigeria? I don’t understand the workings of groups like MASSOB and IPOB, but I think that such rhetoric, attitudes and action from the North would cause unnecessary tension in the country and validate such agitations for secession. One Nigeria banza. What is one Nigeria when a country is being run for only one tribe, now the Fulani? We should stop being rude and stop acting like the new country we now have is called One Nigeria and it belongs solely to the Northerners everywhere they go in Nigeria. Such divisive attitudes and utterances from the parties involved should be discontinued henceforth. Unity is consensual and not enforced in order to perpetuate. Patriotism takes everybody out of this evil called disloyalty to one another.Thank you.
