5 Tips for Harmattan Survival

Hi, ladies! The harmattan season is underway like you know. It’s an offshoot of the dry season and lasts between end of November and middle of March. There are 5 basic tips with essentials, that I need each day of the season.

These essentials include:

1. Lip gloss or lip balm: I ensure that I have my lip gloss or lip balm purse/handbag before I head out of the door. This helps to keep my lip moisturized and lubricated. I also use chapsticks, which come in various flavouring and colours such as mint, orange, strawberry (red) etc.

2. Moisturizers: These include hand and body lotion. It’s essential that I keep my hands and body lubricated, moisturized and hydrated. Body creams help to keep the body’s fluid intact because the wind and sun dry up the skin.

3. Glycerin: This comes in various ‘pursable’ sizes. I don’t usually carry this around, but mix it into my body cream. I prefer glycerin to pomade because the latter leaves residue on the skin and cakes of dust on the feet and heels. Though the latter is essential in thick harmattan weather, I prefer the former for its light grease. Go glycerin!

4. Pedicure and Manicure: Getting pedicure and manicure helps to keep the feet and heels from being cracked. The hands also look good when the nails are cut and filed in even shape. Moisturize your hands and feet and don’t allow sharp objects to pierce your ‘Achilles heel.’ Lol!

5. Water: Water, water, water. I won’t be making an overstatement if I say that water is the most essential item in any woman’s survival kit this season. Drink water. Hydrate. I don’t drink water enough to aid my life. Thank goodness for sachet water. If you can afford it, go for the bottled water.
This is all I can recite and share with you off by heart. Let me know what’s in your own harmattan survival kit.

Obrigada!
