Spotlight Tuesday: Dambisa Moyo - A Lady With An Opinion

Do you know Dambisa Moyo? She's from Lusaka, Zambia, an economist and the author of Dead Aid. Let me tell you how I got to know Dambisa Moyo. I didn't quite know her but I heard about her not favouring Africa's dependence on foreign aid, which she termed Dead Aid. What I gathered (not read yet) showed that Ms Moyo believes that aid is impoverishing Africa. Now, that's some woman. She's got her heart set on the hypothesis that Africans can only become independently empowered when they help themselves. Beyond the bookish Dambisa, who's the lady behind the smile?

Dambisa Moyo was born on February 2, 1969 in Lusaka, Zambia to Zambian parents. She's an international economist and author of three books. Ms Moyo completed a Doctorate degree (D.Phil) in Economics from Oxford University. She holds a Masters degree in International Development from Harvard University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from American University where she also bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Wow! That's something of a handful, but for a woman who had a vision, Dambisa knew where she was going with all these diverse degrees. Or she figured it out along the way. It's Dambisa's to tell, don't you think?

Dambisa analyzes international macroeconomy, world financial markets, and consults clients through her organization Mildstorm Group where she's the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Moyo serves on the board of important corporations such as BarClays Bank, SABMiller, and Barrick Gold. She has also worked with Goldman Sachs and also consulted the World Bank in the United States of America.

The author, speaker, and consultant has received recognitions including the Hayek Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Time Magazine named her as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. To learn more about this African Amazon, please visit here.
