Weekend Highlights: I've been thinking...maybe season's alert?

Hello everybody and welcome to Weekend's Highlights. I don't have much to say this weekend. I was distracted all through the work week and didn't bother to update myself with goings on in the society. I'm sorry about that. However, I did hear over Magic FM, Aba the foray over Rotimi Amaechi's ministerial screening. Before I go into the gist proper let me say that I've been thinking about my weekend update post, Season Alert. Hmmm...I wonder whether it's better to call it Season's Alert instead, so named after Season's Greetings. It's soon going to be the yuletide. No, I'm not trying to be political. Wait a minute. Please don't mind my grammar, correct me. I'm teachable.

I didn't study English Language but by virtue of passing through or graduating a university I did Use of English. But...na Igbo I study oh (don't tell anybody else, it's strictly between us). I was quite comfortable with Season Alert but the other part of my brain that I hardly use got thinking while I was asleep and I thought maybe Season's Alert sounds more like it. Christmas will soon happen after Halloween (and Thanksgiving) and for those who care the air (media and otherwise) is going to be awash with Season's Greetings, Happy Holidays and the like. Well, I'm just a local person trying to be relevant on my blog. Nobody's winning a political bid on this one. Trust me.

On the hullabaloo over Amaechi's ministerial nomination I ask: does the guy want the job sef? If he wants it, aright (in my late grandmother's voice), he gets it. Just like that? Yes, just like that because I didn't read his statement nor did I watch the senate proceedings during the screening. This means I'm not being effective in my recommendation. I wonder why we don't allow His Loyal Highness, President Muhammadu Buhari to give all the posts to his loyalists. Imagine a sitting president very confident to run a rent-seeking government and all his pet. resources are watching and nodding and wondering what's next. Ministry of Agriculture is in dire need of his expertise biko including livestock farming. Shebi he get cows ni? We can learn one or two things from him from that angle too. But everybody wants to nominate himself Minister of Pet. Resources. Didn't OBJ try that gimmick and it worked for him? Has he been quizzed yet? I mean PMB? Yes, I understand his fears: CORRUPTION. What about corruption in agriculture or solid minerals? Don't we need an honest man full of integrity in those ministries too? Or are Adesina's shoes too big to fill? Maybe for a change, we could shift our focus from oil to the ground. Just saying. Ogwusigo. Em...sorry...ogwula.
