Introducing: Fancies! Juicy Exotica

Think back to the good old days when we used to eat some good stuff from 'abroad.' When it wasn't so long since the colonial masters had left and Nigerians still ate from big supermarket names such as Kingsway, Leventis, etc. We used to wear very durable shoes from a company called Bata. What is left of that memory is a bus-stop that everybody calls whenever they are on or going towards Aba/Owerri Road or Ikot Ekpene Road. Actually, Bata is on Factory Road. I'm talking Aba, Abia State. The home of Enyimba FC and em...what again? The famous Ahia Ohuru, Cemetary (aka Eziukwu Road) and Ariaria International markets. Aba is my home. In fact, when last week I saw an insignia on a building read nwaba.com.ng, I laughed and said hmm...nwaba indeed. I'm talking about the good old days when there was Ndiafia supermarket and other niceties.I know many people in Lagos or the USA thought that I was village mgbeke, in fact, you don't get it I'm a complete village champion. I love the serenity of the hinterland but when I want good things don't keep me back from seeing the city.

Aba and the rest of Nigeria championed nationalism as a way of removing the shackles of colonialism but did we decide to return to the caves? Haba! Nationalism doesn't mean savagery or barbarism. Hian! Aba knows nothing uncouth about being uncouth. Everybody has gone so local that when I talked about starting a Pancakes and Waffles eatery my mother was like: "For where? In this place? Please, this place isn't America." I nukwa m. Who's talking America or Canada? Aba isn't Enugu, not Calabar, or Lagos or Abuja. What is waffle sef? In fact, pancakes are for fairies. Who wants to eat Breakfast at 7:00 am and by 10:00 am wants another one/fill? This waffle food doesn't hold body like a plate of rice or beans with plantain? What if like me, you prefer fufu for breakfast so you have to trek a mile to work or to your shop?

Anyway, I'm introducing you folks to my business or quasi-business (what do you call your nemesis), which I have termed Fancies! Juicy Exotica. This was initially conceived as a mini smoothie bar. But who wants smoothies in the rainy season? And yes! They can cost an arm or em...a leg? Smoothies are relatively cheap when you factor in cost of production and the foreign exchange rate. At N500 a cup (modestly prepared, wait for the lavish type when you travel to Lagos or Abuja), my smoothies are cool and just as the dry season is about to set in, I welcome you to my space. Come get a waffle for breakfast. Feed that to your children.

Why Juicy Exotica? Aha! When was the last time that you ate strawberries? Tarraa! There are no strawberries or kiwi at Aba. Hehe! I'm thinking to take you to South Africa, Ghana or even the UK to get a bites of strawberries. For kiwi, I shall take you to New Zealand on a kiwi ride. Enough of wishful thinking: JuicyExotica, for short, is going to get you what you want with a little notice. I'm not a magician but I make things happen. So, anytime you are at Aba and happen by NIPOST, Umungasi area try and find me in a remote spot and ask for my fresh waffles and pancakes. See you soon. Cheers!
